Every day, our eyes perform at their best without us noticing: the main thing is that we can see everything. It is fatal when we can no longer rely on this sense and our vision slowly becomes cloudy, as with cataracts. Even more fatal: our eyes, in conjunction with the brain, are able to compensate for such changes to the retina. They therefore remain unnoticed for a long time and are usually only discovered when parts of the retina have already been irreversibly damaged. Regular eye screening is therefore an important form of early detection and helps to maintain eye health.
